ISABELLA'S PINK, GREEN AND GOLD NURSERY REVEAL!

We finally have a new room reveal! The first space of 2023 and it was made for the sweetest baby. Without a doubt, nurseries are the most special places to decorate. The excitement of a newborn, the beautiful choices available for babies, and the love that you feel when you walk in the room. Isabella’s nursery was a dream to design and I feel so honoured to be a tiny part of this beautiful family’s beginnings.

Isabella’s Mom has a great design eye and already knew that she wanted to include this forest wallpaper as a feature in the baby nursery so this was the piece that we worked with to create the rest of the dreamy space.

This room had been used as a guest room previously and the smaller space made it a perfectly cozy place to create a baby nursery. The gorgeous windows allow plenty of sunlight and we positioned the nursing chair in this corner for two reasons. The first was to be close to the crib, so feeding to sleeping transitions were made easier, especially at night. The second was the view from the window. When laying out a nursery, it’s essential to think about who will be spending time where and having the chair in this position allows both parents to hold baby while enjoying the forest view.

The crib is a forever piece of beautifully made furniture from Kalon Studios that can be converted to a toddler bed when the time comes. In the photos it’s tricky to see the mobile, but in the room it’s a pretty piece for baby to look at when falling to sleep.

SHOP THE LOOK…

The sunlight that pours in these windows makes the entire room glow and we layered soft linen curtains on top of the blackout shades that can be pulled down to create darkness for sleep time. We chose this solid wood dresser as an interim piece until the real dresser arrives, but with time delays on some furniture being the reality of life in the design world, we decided to go ahead and photograph the nursery as is. I think it’s beautiful enough to share now and this dresser provides the function of holder baby goods, such as diapers, tiny clothing and blankets perfectly well.

On the small wall next to the walk-in closet, you can see that we added bookshelves that act as both functional storage and an art display. Here’s a look at that spot, before and after.

RENTAL HOUSE: OUR TWIN GIRLS' SHARED ROOM!

Well, here we are…the second room reveal of the rental house!!! If you caught the before photo in last week’s post of this space, you’ll remember that one twin wasn’t too thrilled about moving into that room. I’m happy to report that with a little re-decoration, both girls now love this space!

SHOP THE LOOK…

What started with a super basic room (and still is) has turned into a pretty and fresh space for my sweet girlies to make their own memories in. As with so many before and afters, a fresh coat of paint was a big help. I hesitated in sharing this room because the beds didn’t feel right. We have had these Ikea wood beds for a while now, waiting until we move into a permanent house where we could transition the girls into bigger, more substantial beds. It didn’t seem worth buying interim ones for this rental house, so we just painted them white and kept them as is. The pictures in the frames have been swapped out a few times, but the girls love these forest animals, so this is where we’ve landed for now.

After a full coat of paint, then adding a wall of wallpaper, the focus turned to finding enough space for a little storage. This dresser is more traditional than my typical style, but it was the exact fit for a functional side table and clothes keeper between the beds. I just love how the simple round mirror pulls the big wall together. The sweetest little lamb and bunny are from Cuddle + Kind, one of my favourite Canadian companies, who donate 10 meals to kids in need for every doll purchased.

You might have spotted these bookshelves before in the post about how to style your kids’ shelves. I still love the simplicity of these white metal shelves and recommend them for storing books and pretty things anywhere in your house.

In this next photo, you can see the window side of the room. This is South facing and lets in a lot of light! While I typically wouldn’t add custom shades to a rental, it was an absolute need to have blackout for this window. I just LOVE how these turned out and really feel that this fabric gives the space a little bit of a special feel. They are from Tonic Living, who were a joy to work with. The wood dollhouse is on my gift list each year and has been a firm favourite with our girls for a few years now. It is a big hit with play dates and I’m always amazed by how long our two girls play with it independently. The hooks are old from Anthropologie and the purses are from a trip to Australia. Above right are my sweet girls who I am so lucky to have been able to decorate this room for! Credit for this image goes to my patient husband who took the kids out of the house during quarantine so that I could shoot the room and then came back and snapped this photo for us.

In case anyone thought that their room looks like this all the time, please know that a styled shoot is just that! The second they walked in the door, the girls were up and jumping on their beds as usual and soon enough, the trinkets will be back on their dresser and shelves. After all, pretty spaces become even more beautiful when they are lived in and loved.

ELLA'S BIG GIRL ROOM

If you've been following along for a while now, you'll remember Ella's soft pink and gold toddler room from last spring! I am excited to share an update of Ella's room, with the main change being her big girl bed. I wanted to show you how little has really changed in the room, and that creating the right space when your little one is a baby or toddler really can last for years to come, with very minor changes.

Ella's canopy was originally used to create a corner for her to read and play in (below left). As toddlers grow, it's fun to make changes to inspire and invite play; this is as simple as putting the canopy over her bed for now and it can easily be changed back on a whim. The little dollhouse was added as a fun place to play right at Ella's height.

The other side of the room hasn't changed at all, with the dresser still working well and the dress up corner still being used.

A BABY GIRL'S PINK & DREAMY NURSERY

Pink and white with hints of yellow and a splash of gold, this baby girl nursery is light-filled and absolutely dreamy! I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am to share my newest project, little Nayviah's baby room with you all. Baby Nayviah's nursery is finished and it is pure bliss.

Sweet little Nayviah was not yet here when we were dreaming up and creating the room she would come home to. This room had a black ceiling when I first saw it and right away I knew we wanted to brighten it up and make the most of the gorgeous Vancouver light when it shines. Nayviah's mom had two must-haves on her list: drapery over the crib and damask wallpaper. We worked together to choose the perfect paper and this one really has to be felt and seen up close to get the full effect; there is a shimmer to it that sparkles beautifully when the light shines.

She was a dream client, loving what I presented and seeing my vision right from the start. The room is both airy and bright, soft and serene and the blackout curtains ensure that nap time and bedtime are dark (so important with tiny babes). Working with local artist, Dana Mooney, we created an Ikat on canvas that pulled the yellow, pink, off white and gold together. 

Nayviah has a toddler brother and I wanted to make sure that this space was a retreat for her, a place she could be rocked gently and read to away from the rest of the world. I just love how the book wall turned out with the Ubabub acrylic shelves and she is going to love peering into those mirrors to see her reflection as she grows.

The mobile was custom made and sent from France from the sweetest handmade shop Creme Anglaise, and I have been eyeing it for ages waiting for the perfect space to place her work in. It's hard not to include at least a one of the Animal Print Shop art prints in a space for a little one and I just love how these two pair with the gold ottoman.

I thought it would be fun to throw in a photo of what the space looked like the first time I saw it. It was a newly purchased home and a HUGE renovation happened throughout the house but this room remained intact.

The wallpaper was the inspiration for the whole room and I love how it came together. Just walking in the room now feels completely fresh, airy, bright and serene.

ELLA'S SOFT PINK AND GOLD TODDLER ROOM

Over the moon excited to share our newest project, ELLA'S ROOM!

This room was created for a toddler girl and is bright and airy with touches of gold and rose quartz, Pantone's colour of 2016.

Three-year-old Ella and her family had recently moved into a bigger home and were looking to have the room transformed from a baby nursery into a space that Ella could enjoy not only now as a toddler but somewhere special that could be used and loved for years to come. The overall goal was to create a bright, airy and whimsical space in soft pink, hints of grey and accents of gold - something completely dreamy!

Starting with the Numero 74 canopy, the rest of the room took cues from there. The perfectly muted pink fabric is soft and forms a lovely little retreat for laying, reading and playing with friends. The gold stars add to the whimsical decor and tie in with the gold throughout.

Keeping the crib from the nursery made sense, as it was easy to remove a side and convert the crib to a day bed. Lots of cushions and soft linens are fun for the day and so simple to remove for bedtime. Above the daybed are feather light angel wings that can come off for wearing or put back on the wall for display.

Lucky little Ella loves dressing up so a sweet little dress up corner was created for her to hang her special dresses and fairy wings as well as house her growing collection of wands and accessories. 

She adores not only dressing herself, but also her stuffed animals. The sweet deer and cat are exquisitely handmade in Poland and found on Etsy. Ella loved them so much that more clothes for the animals were ordered for her to play dress up with.

A lovely little DIY touch is the cloud shelves. Ella's mom found this idea and happily pitched in to create this special touch for her daughter. The rain hooks were painted to match with the Rose Quartz throughout the room and are great for hanging little jackets and purses at just the right height. 

The gold mirror adds a huge pop of glamour to the space and will easily grow with Ella and be used through the years to come. Looking through the mirror, you can see the angel wings and dreamy bedding.

To keep the room looking as beautiful as when it is styled, sufficient storage was a must! Sweet Ella has lots of stuffed animals that she loves to pull out and play with. Thankfully, they can easily be tossed back into the baskets when it is time to clean up!

With all the sweet details and special DIY touches, Ella's new room is now a gorgeous space for her to grow and create memories in.
